Newark Defeats Elmira, 10-1
The Pioneers met with the Newark Pilots again to complete the home and home series. This game would determine who would pull ahead in the West Division standings in the PGCBL.
The Pilots got a run in the first, third and fifth inning to bring the score 3-0.
The Pioneers finally broke through in the sixth after Ty Denzer (Kansas) lined a double down the first base line to start the inning. Jason Patnick (Manhattan) would bring in Denzer on a sacrifice fly to bring the score 3-1.
However, that would be the only offense they could muster as a two run seventh, a three run eighth and a two run ninth from the Pilots would put the game out of reach 10-1
Max Ludka (Saginaw Valley State) would pitch a full nine innings, giving up one run on six hits. Taylor Ahearn (Cal State San Marcos) received the loss for Elmira pitching six innings of work, giving up thre runs on seven hits and striking out six batters.
The Pioneers will be back at Historic Dunn Field tomorrow to continue the U.S.A. Homestand at Historic Dunn Field!
Tomorrow, July 1st, Elmira faces the Victor RailRiders at 7:05 p.m. That game features a free t-shirt giveaway provided by Elm Chevrolet and Big Fox with Post Game Fireworks to follow.
On Saturday, July 2nd, it's a free stadium horn giveaway provided by Watkins Glen and the game is also sponsored by WENYTV-36. On that day, the Pioneers face the Adirondack TrailBlazers at 7:05 p.m.
