Orlando Titans News Release
The New York Titans and the Rochester Knighthawks exchanged scoring runs throughout the second half of their exciting and physical game at Nassau Coliseum Saturday night, which the Titans lost 21-15.
Both teams left the field bloodied after two fights in the second half in which two Rochester players and one Titan were ejected from the game. Anthony Kelly and Jack Reid of the Rochester Knighthawks were both ejected in the third quarter. At the time of the brawl, the Titans were chipping away at their four goal deficit left from the end of the first half. New York had brought the score to 11-9 when the fight occurred. Titan Jarett Park scored a quick goal after Kelly and Reid were ejected, bringing the score to 11-10. Rochester followed with a seven goal run which was unanswered by the Titans until late until the fourth quarter.
With less than four minutes left in the game, and the Titans losing 19-10, Titans captain Casey Powell sparked a Titans scoring spree. Powell scored three goals in the last four minutes of the game and Pat Maddalena and Mike McLellan each added a goal, bringing the final score to 21-15.
The second Titans-Knighthawks fight took place in the fourth quarter between Titans rookie John Orsen and Rochester defenseman Scott Ditzell with 3:38 left to play. Ditzell was ejected for game misconduct.
Titans Assistant Captain Ryan Boyle was the Titans leading scorer for the night with four goals and five assists. Captain Casey Powell scored four goals and dished three assists in the loss.
For Rochester, forward Shawn Williams had 11 points off six goals and five assists.
The Titans last faced the Knighthawks in January, when they were defeated 22-18 in a game worthy of several highlight reels for both teams. The Knighthawks' John Grant broke the single game points record in that game against the Titans, by recording 15 points off of nine goals and six assists. The Titans' Casey Powell had his best game of the season during that match-up when he dished 10 assists and scored one goal, in acrobatic form, from behind the net.
The Titans game against the Knighthawks Saturday was broadcast live on SportsNet New York at 7:30pm. SNY, the television home of the New York Mets, New York Jets and New York Titans, announced that the network will air additional Titans games this season, including a live broadcast of the Titans' game in Chicago this Sunday, March 25 at 4pm. (See below for the remaining Titans schedule on SNY.) The last Titans-Knighthawks match-up was broadcast live on SNY and registered a higher Nielsen television rating than its head to head competition combined, New York Islanders hockey on Fox Sport New York and the New Jersey Devils hockey on MSG.
The Titans travel to Chicago Sunday, March 25th to battle the Shamrox for the third time this season. The Titans first faced the Shamrox at Chicago's inaugural season home opener and lost that match-up 15-12. At the Titans inaugural season home opener at Madison Square Garden, the Titans avenged that loss with a 11-9 win over the Shamrox in front of 13,127 fans. The Titans take on the Shamrox Sunday at 4PM EST. The game will be broadcast live on SNY.
The Titans final home game of the season takes place next Saturday, March 31st at 12:30pm at Nassau Coliseum versus Edmonton. The Titans will host fan appreciation night where prizes and other special promotions will take place throughout the afternoon. Tickets are now on sale via Ticketmaster charge-by-phone, Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, the Nassau Coliseum box office or by logging onto www.nytitans.com.
