
New York Red Bulls and special guest Carlos "Pibe" Valderrama to host tryouts this weekend

NEW YORK (Thursday, May 1, 2014) - For the first time in its eight-year history, local tryouts for Sueño MLS 2014 - Presented by Allstate, will be held in the greater New York area, hosted by the New York Red Bulls. Tryouts for the nationally-televised player search are being held this weekend, with the opening round taking place Saturday, May 3 at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex in Jersey City, NJ, and the local finals being held at the New York Red Bulls Training Facility in Whippany, NJ, on Sunday, May 4.
While pre-registration for the New York Red Bulls event is full, players are encouraged to sign up in person for the "walk-up" list starting Saturday, May 3 at 8 a.m. ET, at the Jersey City location.
MLS World Cup Colombian legend Carlos "El Pibe" Valderrama is scheduled to be on hand as a scout and mentor, as well as Mexican goalkeeping icon Martin "El Pulpo" Zuñiga who will host a free public goalkeeping clinic on Saturday, May 3, between 1 p.m. ET and 2 p.m. ET followed by an autograph session. In addition, New York Red Bulls stars, as well as Univision Network's República Deportiva personalities Natalia Saenz and Carla Aranguren are scheduled to make special appearances.
Friends and family of participating players, as well as the general public, are invited to watch the first round of the tryouts in Jersey City, and enjoy the interactive fan zone presented by the event partners. Both event days are open to media.
