
New York Power Trade Kester, Draft Pick for Keeper Smolak

New York Power General Manager Susan Marenoff announced today the Power have acquired, in a trade with the San Diego Spirit, Goalkeeper Carly Smolak. In the trade Sherrill Kester returns to the Spirit and they also receive the Power's 2003 third round draft pick.
Smolak, 23 from Lake Oswego, OR started the last seven games for the Spirit, finishing the season with a 1.75 goals against average .Her first career start ever, in 2001, was against the Power on June 30 where she earned a 1-1 draw. She played her collegiate soccer at Stanford University and ranks second all time in saves and shutouts compiling a record of 63-15-6
"We are very excited to bring Carly into the mix of Power goalkeepers," said GM Susan Marenoff. "Carly is a young and driven player who we hope will continue to progress immeasurably"
