
Courage To Battle NY Power In Charleston on Saturday

Cary, North Carolina (October 15, 2002) -- The defending WUSA Champion Carolina Courage will cap off a week of post-season training this Saturday, October 19th with an exhibition match against the New York Power at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC. Blackbaud Stadium, home of the A-League's Charleston Battery, seats 5,100 spectators and was the site of the U.S. Women's National Team exhibition match against Mexico in January of this year. Saturday's exhibition game against the Power will kick off at 3:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased online at www.charlestonbattery.com or by calling the Battery ticket hotline at 971-GOAL (4625).
Camp Notes:
The Carolina Courage has reconvened for a mini training camp at SAS Soccer Park in Cary. The Courage is missing several members of the championship squad that claimed Founders Cup II. German forward Birgit Prinz and Norwegian midfielders Hege Riise and Unni Lehn have returned to Europe to join their respective countries' national teams, while. The Courage is also training without its first year players Emily Oleksiuk, Katie Barnes and Brooke O'Hanley, who have returned to campus to complete their collegiate degree requirements. In these players' absence, Head Coach Marcia McDermott has invited three players into camp for the New York game in order to take a closer look. Among the invitees is Erin O'Grady, a forward who scored twice and earned MVP honors in the Boston Renegades' 3-0 W-League Championship victory over Charlotte, midfielder Robin McCullough, a first-team W-League All-Star with the Maryland Pride, and Amy Kofoed, a forward from Utah who was selected by the San Diego Spirit with the first pick in the fourth round of the 2002 WUSA draft.
