New York Power News Release

New York, NY (July 18, 2002) – The MetroStars will team up with the WUSA's New York Power in a special doubleheader for area soccer fans on Wednesday, August 7th at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, NY, with the Power hosting the Carolina Courage in a WUSA regular season game that kicks off at 7 p.m. ET, followed immediately by the MetroStars hosting the Columbus Crew in a quarterfinal game of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The event marks the first in-season doubleheader between the NY/NJ metropolitan area's two professional soccer teams, though both the MetroStars and Power, along with Major League Soccer's D.C. United and WUSA's Washington Freedom, took part in joint doubleheaders at Giants Stadium and RFK Stadium in Washington, DC as part of the Unity Games fundraising efforts that netted more than $240,000 for victims of September 11, 2001.

Tickets for the MetroStars-Power doubleheader are available through the Power box office at 1-866-POWRTIX (1-866-769-7849), through www.nypower.com and at all area Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets are priced at $12 (youths aged 12 and under), $17, $20 and $25.

All MetroMember season ticket holders and Mighty Metros Fan Club members can obtain the NY Power season ticket holder discounted ticket prices for the doubleheader by contacting their MetroStars account manager at 1-888-4-METROTIX.

"We are delighted to have the MetroStars join us to create this double header event following the Power game against Carolina," said Power General Manager Susan Marenoff. "We are pleased to be a part of offering a great night of soccer with this first time event to our New York fan base."

"We're thrilled to partner with the Power to create what we think will be a very special night for soccer fans in our area," said MetroStars President/General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. "We're always happy when we are able to play before the loyal fan base we have on Long Island and throughout Eastern New York, especially when it's an important U.S. Open Cup match."

The MetroStars advanced to the U.S. Open Cup round of eight by virtue of their 1-0 win over the A-League's Hampton Roads Mariners on Tuesday night in Virginia Beach, VA. The Crew advance to the quarterfinals last night, beating the A-League's Richmond Kickers, 3-0, at Crew Stadium.
