
New York Liberty to Induct Kym Hampton into Liberty "Ring of Honor" Tonight at Prudential

NEW YORK, NY - August 30, 2011 - The New York Liberty are celebrating its 15 years in the WNBA by unveiling the first five inductees in the Liberty "Ring of Honor." The "Ring of Honor" represents retired players who have made the most significant contributions to the Liberty's tradition of excellence and to the growth of the WNBA. Tonight, the Liberty will induct the fifth and final player into the "Ring of Honor" when Liberty Fan Development Leader and legend Kym Hampton will be honored during halftime of the team's game versus the Chicago Sky at Prudential Center.
Hampton, The Liberty's first-round draft pick in the WNBA's inaugural season in 1997, led the franchise to two Finals appearances (1997 and 1999) averaging 9.3 points per game and 5.8 rebounds over her career. Since her retirement in 2000, she has served as a philanthropic ambassador to the organization and has represented the Liberty in the community throughout the tri-state area.
The Liberty has inducted five players into the "Ring of Honor" during the 2011 regular season. Vickie Johnson was the first player inducted on July 1 followed by Teresa Weatherspoon on July 17, Sue Wicks on July 28 and Rebecca Lobo on Aug. 9. Tonight, Kym Hampton who was selected by a committee of voters, will join this prestigious group.
