New York Dragons News Release

Kevin Swayne again proved to be too much to handle for the opposition as his nine catches for 115 yards and five touchdown receptions led the Dragons to a 62-49 win over the Nashville Kats in front of a raucous 10,778 fans on Saturday night. Swayne reached the 100 touchdown-reception plateau in his AFL career with his effort.

“I didn’t even realize I was approaching it,” said Swayne who received a game ball following the victory. “I’m just glad I could of it in front our great fans and send them home happy with the win.”

The Dragons improved to 2-1 on the season as they head into next Sunday's battle at the Coliseum at 3pm vs. Arizona, which marks the return of former New York head coach Todd Shell.

Mike Horacek, typically one of the Dragons' key components on the offensive side of the ball, posted a key interception early in the third quarter to blow open the game. Horacek, was also named the ADT Defensive Player of the Game with his impressive pass coverage throughout the evening.

Horacek's interception in the endzone of Leon Murray's pass eventually led to Josh White's one-yard touchdown plunge minutes later, opening up a 42-28 score after Nashville began the second half with possession and trailing by a touchdown. Horacek managed to haul in a touchdown later in the game and posted five receptions for 57 receiving yards. White was named the US Army Ironman of the Game with his two touchdown and 2.5 tackling effort.

The game didn't start out in the Dragons favor as they drove deep quickly on the first possession of the game, yet Aaron Garcia (18 for 26, 232 passing yards, seven touchdowns) was intercepted in the endzone by Nashville's Angel Estrada. But Garcia quickly managed to get back on track and found Swayne often in the second quarter to turn things in the hosts' favor.

On the defensive side of the ball, Chris Angel led the way statistically with eight tackles for New York while assisting on two others. Corey Johnson posted five tackles and assisted on another for a total of 5.5.
