Nashville Kats News Release
Aaron Garcia threw seven touchdown passes, five of which went to Kevin Swayne, as the New York Dragons downed the Nashville Kats, 62-49, on Saturday night at Nassau Coliseum. The loss leaves Nashville at 1-3 and ups the Dragons' record to 2-1 on the year. It marks only the second time in franchise history that the Kats have lost three games in a row.
Swayne had an outstanding game, having caught TD passes of six , nine, 11 and 12 and 14 yards from Garcia. He also set up the Dragons' second touchdown with a long kickoff return down to Nashville's one-yard line. Josh White rammed it in for NY on the next play. Swayne wound up with nine receptions for 115 yards, while Garcia was 18-of-26 for 232 yards, seven TD's and one INT.
Nashville scored on a pair of TD passes from Leon Murray to Jarrick Hillery and a pair of scoring runs by Murray, who was pulled in favor of backup Tony Zimmerman late in the game after going 19-of-31 for 192 yards and two touchdowns. Zimmerman completed four-of-seven passes for 72 yards and two TD's in relief. The Kats ran the ball 16 times for 43 yards and three scores as well.
The Kats led through much of the first half, but could not contain Swayne who battered Nashville with big play after big play. After tying the game on an eight-yard run by Dan Alexander with 37 seconds in the half, the Dragons managed to wrestle away the lead with another Swayne TD reception on the last play of the half. Murray then made his first big mistake of the game on the first possession of the second half, hurrying a throw that was picked off by Mike Horacek at the goal line and returned 32 yards. The Dragons cashed in five plays later on a one-yard TD run by Josh White to go up by 14.
Nashville managed to trim the lead to seven later in the third quarter, but would get no closer the rest of the way.
The Kats return home next Saturday to face the Las Vegas Gladiators. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
