About the owner: The new owner, Don Sims, is a 13 year resident of Seattle. A graduate of Central Connecticut State University, Don and his wife Susan are eager to start the season. "I hope to provide the best family entertainment at an affordable price. This gives players a chance to play in Seattle and care for their families here- instead of traveling overseas to do so." Don's work with the Mercer Island Boys and Girls Club and Plymouth Housing Group has made him a solid member of the community. Don also officiates within the local high school basketball association.
About the 2006 Schedule: The Seattle Mountaineers will tip-off their season on March 17th in Vancouver Washington against the Vancouver Volcanoes. Seattle will play a 20 game schedule
Unique year with only 2 home games: The Seattle Mountaineers will play 20 games and compete for the IBL title but they will play only two home games in 2006. Quote from IBL Commissioner about the Mountaineers unique schedule-"as much as I believe that the IBL's 127 points per IBL team scoring average in two hours-will catch on-Seattle is not a market to just show up with a new professional basketball team. Only having two home games gives the Mountaineers time to build a following before incurring significant expenses (the Mountaineers do not pay the same dues as normal teams during this first year). As Seattle sports fans read box scores and/or hear about the fast paced IBL, a Mountaineer following should occur. I see this is a responsible way for an IBL team to be received in the Seattle market."
2006 Venue: Home games on April 22nd versus the Vancouver Volcanoes and June 17th versus the Tacoma Thunder will be played at Bellevue Community College at 7:15pm.
