On Sunday, September 18, 2011, The Seattle Mountaineers ABA (American basketball Association) team played an exhibition scrimmage against some of the NBA's top players in Seattle. NBA players, Jamal Crawford (Atlanta Hawks) and Golden State Warriors, Will Conroy help organize the game. "The thing I like about our basketball community in Seattle is that our area players amateur or professional come together and support each other", stated Coach Sims of the Mountaineers.
The scrimmage game was very competitive and went into overtime before a winner was determined." I was really pleased with our effort and poise against these seasoned NBA players, this type of competition really helps our players to improve on the court and understand what it takes to play at the next level (NBA)."
Jamal Crawford, Atlanta Hawks, led the local NBA All Star team with 44 points followed by Will Conroy, Golden State Warriors, 32 points. The Mountaineers had balance scoring 6-10, Billy McNutt, 25 points, Rashaad Powell 22 and Marcus Bradford 20. " I was really pleased with the play of our rookies, guards Kennie Eberhart, 12 points, 8 rebounds and Marcus Jacobs, 10 points, 7 assists", commented Coach Sims.
The Mountaineers open their exhibition schedule next Saturday, September 24 in Kelowna, Canada.
