
New Orleans VooDoo FB/LB Dan Curran and DS Monty Montgomery join New Orleans Saints

Following standout 2004 campaigns for the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League, FB/LB Dan Curran and DS Monty Montgomery have been added to the active roster of the New Orleans Saints, it was announced by the team.
Curran and Montgomery will report to Saints training camp on July 29. Curran will compete for a roster spot at fullback, while Montgomery will work at both defensive back positions.
Curran (6-0, 230, New Hampshire) enjoyed one of the most prolific rushing seasons in AFL history, and was a first-team All-Arena selection, as well as being selected to the U.S. Army All-Ironman team. Curran completed his fourth AFL season and led the league in rushing with 85 carries for 336 yards. Curran's 21 rushing touchdowns were the second-highest total in the league and also tied for the third-highest all-time AFL season total. Curran is only one of five AFL players to score more than 20 rushing touchdowns in a season. Defensively, Curran was also among his team's tackling leaders, recording 26.5 stops, one sack and one forced fumble.
Montgomery (6-0, 195, Houston) is a five-year NFL veteran, who was named to the AFL's All-Rookie team in 2004. Montgomery was a defensive force for VooDoo in his first AFL season, recording 85 tackles, one sack, five interceptions and 25 passes defensed.
Originally a fourth round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 1997, Montgomery has seen action with the Colts, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles in 54 games, recording 141 tackles (125 solo), 3.5 sacks, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 21 special teams tackles. Montgomery enjoyed his finest season with the 49ers in 2000, as he appeared in 15 games with nine starts at cornerback and free safety, recording 49 tackles, a half sack and a career-high three interceptions.
Curran and Montgomery have been placed on the VooDoo's exempt/other league reserve list, meaning that the VooDoo will retain their Arena Football League rights to both players.
