Nation's Only Youth Arena Football League Concludes Play in Plano on Wednesday
July 27, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Dallas Desperados News Release
The Dallas Desperados Youth Arena Football League in Plano will be holding the final games of its 2004 season Wednesday night at the Plano Sport Authority. The Youth Arena Football League is the only youth indoor football league in the nation.
In conjunction with the Plano Sport Authority, the Dallas Desperados helped organized the nation's first and only youth arena football league during the spring of 2003. After starting with only eight teams, the league has exploded to 20 teams consisting of 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade students. The YAFL kicked off its season on June 14 and is concluding its playoffs tomorrow night.
Desperados players Ja'Mar Toombs â a former standout running back from Kilgore High School and Texas A&M University â and C.J. McLain will be on hand from 6:00 â 7:00 p.m. to sign autographs, take pictures and get the championships kicked off.
Like the Arena Football League, the YAFL is played on a 50-yard indoor football field with padded walls and shortened end zones. The only major difference from the AFL is that the padded walls in the YAFL are three yards off the sidelines. Other than that, the youth get the full experience of arena football.
