The Marshals News Release
Waco, TX- Tri-States Indoor Professional Sports, Inc. (TIPS), ownership group of the new National Indoor Football League (NIFL) Waco franchise, today announced the team's name and logo at the Heart O' Texas Fair and Rodeo Complex.
"We think the name Waco Marshals adequately represents the city of Waco, the central Texas region, and also the state of Texas itself. The city is the home of the Texas Rangers museum and has a great legacy of law and order. The name fits the western tradition of Texas and is somewhat unique," stated TIPS co-owner and Director of Operations Garmez Parks.
The Waco Marshals will play a fourteen game schedule in the NIFL in 2004. The Marshals will open their inaugural season at home against the Atlantic South Division Champion Lake Charles Land Sharks.
On Saturday March 20, the Marshals will take on the soon-to-be state rival Wichita Falls Thunder at the HOT Complex.
The NIFL will enter its fourth year when the 2004 regular season begins this March. The season will run through the end of June. Playoffs will begin in July and culminate with Indoor Bowl IV- the NIFL League Championship game.
The Marshals, whose colors are black and teal, will play their home games at the Heart O' Texas Complex. The National Indoor Football League currently has 25 teams in 18 states.
The Marshals also announced the hiring of General Manager/Head Coach John Bronkhorst. Coach Bronkhorst comes to the Marshals via Austin, Texas. He was the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator for the NIFL Austin Knights in the 2002 season.
The Marshals will hold an open player tryout at the HOT Complex on January 31, 2004 at 2 p.m. All participants will be charged a $50 participation fee and will receive a free combative t-shirt. More information on the tryout will be released later next week.
