New Mexisco to jumpstart Gallup's ABA season

Gallup, NM. After a pre-season schedule change, the ABA Gallup Talons will open their official 2005-2006 American Basketball Association season against cross-state rival, the New Mexico Style Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19, 7pm at the Gallup Junior High School on Boardman Drive.

"We're very excited about starting our season against the Santa Fe team," said Talon head coach Clayton Shields. "We have been practicing very hard for about six weeks and can't wait to see what we have."

Shields said he is confident the talent he has accumulated over the past five months will be proudly represent the City of Gallup in their inaugural season. Among the players Shields will be relying heavily on is point guard Will Funn, who led the nation in assists while at Portland State University 2004-2005; power forward and New Mexico State alumnus Louis Ricardson; Brooklyn native and Western New Mexico State grad Malcolm Conner will be in the small forward spot, and local favorite Matt Vail of New Mexico Highland University in the shooting guard slot. "I am proud of how hard our guys have worked and I feel their conditioning will show on the floor," said Shields, referring to the rigorous conditioning program they have been holding daily at Gallup's 6500 foot altitude.

The Talons will be traveling to Santa Fe to play thei Style Nov 25,26 and will return home to play the Texas Tycoons on December 7th at Gallup Junior High School. For more information, email herald01@cia-g.com or visit www.abalive.com.
