November 10, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Los Angeles Aftershock News Release
Head Coach Andre Smith of the Los Angeles Aftershock announced that veteran NBA center Olden Polynice had agreed to terms with the team as player/assistant coach. Polynice has been working out with the team to get in shape and assist players, and will make his first appearance Friday Night against the SoCal Legends and Gary Grant.
Smith states that "Olden gives us more size, more leadership, and instantly, more basketball knowledge in the arena anytime that he is around." Polynice, the 7ft center out of the University of Virginia with 15 years of NBA experience in Seattle, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Utah and Detroit, immediately makes us "bigger, smarter and more technically sound" added Smith.
Polynice said "that this is the beginning of the transition from player to coach for me" and that he "still had some basketball player in him " to get out of his system." Polynice will join Nick Sheppard on the front line for Coach Smith and the Aftershock. Fridays game can be heard on the Aftershock web site at www.laaftershock.com. For tickets and more information, call (714) 470-1122. The Aftershock and Polynice play three games at home this weekend at LA College Southwest. Game times Friday and Saturday are 7pm. Sunday against Tijuana is at 2pm.
