New Mexico United News Release
New Mexico United and New Mexico 811 are thrilled to announce the first additions to the U-23 roster in the team's history. United Academy graduates midfielder Josh Baros, forward Josiah Henderson, and goalkeeper Nate Slota - all Albuquerque natives - make team history as the first players on the U-23 roster.
"I am thrilled to welcome these New Mexicans back home for our inaugural U-23 season," said U-23 Head Coach Luke Sanford. "These young men have represented our state incredibly well in their first years in college, and will continue to make all of us proud, as we travel across New Mexico this summer."
Baros was the first signing in New Mexico United Academy history, in January of 2021. After leading the team in it's inaugural season, Baros graduated, playing his freshman season at the University of Tulsa. He is a graduate of Valley High School, and played many years at Rio Rapids Youth Academy.
Slota was the seventh signing in New Mexico United Academy history, in January of 2021. After spending the first half of the 2021 season with United Academy, Slota joined Rhodes College for his freshman season, allowing just four goals in six appearances, and making 19 saves. Slota won a state title with Albuquerque High School and played youth soccer with Rio Rapids.
Henderson was the sixteenth signing in New Mexico United Academy history, in March of 2021. After graduating from the United Academy in 2021, he joined Colorado Mesa University, where he made 17 appearances in just his first season, scoring one goal and assisting another. An Albuquerque High graduate and state champion, Henderson played his youth soccer at Rio Rapids.
United U-23 will compete in the Mountain Division in the 2022 season. The Mountain Division schedule will be released soon on USL League Two's website and social accounts.
