New Mexico United News Release
New Mexico United and New Mexico 811 are thrilled to announce the tenth round of additions to the U-23 roster in the team's history. Turner Humphrey and Tom Protzek join the inaugural roster to bring the number of announced players to twenty-nine ahead of the inaugural season.
"Turner and Tom bring a wealth of talent and experience to our team, and will make an immediate impact," said United U-23 Head Coach Luke Sanford. "These two improve our strength in the middle of the pitch, and will be a handful for the opposition."
Humphrey is a center back and native of Redlands, CA. He attends the University of California - Davis. Humphrey redshirted his freshman year with the Mustangs, before COVID-19 cancelled the 2020 season. He plans to transfer to Oregon State this season. Coach Sanford touts his playmaking and passing ability.
Protzek is a forward at the University of Tulsa, where he has played alongside United U-23 teammate Josh Baros. The German is a set piece specialist, who started in six matches in his 2021 freshman season, scoring two goals and assisting four more. He competed in the FC St. Pauli system in Hamburg, Germany for seven years, before making the trip across the Atlantic.
United U-23 compete in the USL League Two Mountain Division in the 2022 season. Their next match is tonight at Capital High School in Santa Fe. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM. Following that, United U-23 will travel to Taos for a match at Taos Eco Park. Tickets to each match are just $12 and include a handheld flag. To get your tickets, visit newmexicoutd.com/u23
