
New Mexico To Celebrate Ten Years of Scorpions Hockey

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), will celebrate "Ten Years of Scorpions Hockey" on Friday, Dec. 8 when the Scorpions host Oklahoma City . The crowning moment of the night will be when former player and current Assistant Coach/Director of Community Relations Randy Murphy will be inducted in the Scorpions Hall of Fame.
Murphy will join Scorpions legends Peter Ambroziak, Derek Crawford and Travis Van Tighem as members of the prestigious fraternity. Murphy's professional career spanned 12 seasons, including three amazing years with the Scorpions.
While with the Scorpions, Murphy amassed some of the most impressive numbers of anyone who donned a Scorpions sweater. The Mississauga , Ont. native is second on the Scorpions all time list with 143 assists and 250 points. The former center is also third in goals with 107 and appeared in 199 games in a Scorpions' jersey, fifth most of all time.
Before retiring, Murphy played in 397 games in the CHL and the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL). He ranks 15th in points with 509, goals with 196 and assists with 313 in the combined history of the leagues.
After finishing his career with CHL rival Corpus Christi , Murphy returned to Rio Rancho, with his wife and two daughters. The Scorpions quickly brought back the legend by offering him his current job.
Joining Murphy in attendance at the special tenth anniversary celebration will be Ambroziak, Luciano Caravaggio, Crawford, Darcy Pengelly and Van Tighem. In addition, vintage New Mexico Scorpions jerseys will be worn during the game. Following the festivities and the game, the fans will have a chance to purchase the game worn jerseys as well as the legends jerseys at a post-game auction.
