New Jersey Native Henkel Rejoins Trenton Devils

TRENTON, NJ (September 24, 2007) - The Trenton Devils today announced that they have agreed to terms with center Jim Henkel. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hailing from Hazlet, NJ, the 6-2, 190-pounder returns for his third season with Trenton. Henkel, 28, compiled 21 goals, 29 assists and 52 minutes of penalties last year, while tying a team season-high with 69 games played. During his first year with Trenton in 2004-05, Henkel ranked second on the squad in goals (22) and points (47) and added 25 assists.

The sixth-year pro burst onto the scene during his rookie season, posting career highs of 32 goals and 36 assists while helping to lead the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies to the 2003 Kelly Cup, and being named to the Northern Conference All-Star Team. He went on to total 33 points (14g, 19a) over 87 AHL contests from 2002-05.

Originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the eighth round (#217 overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Henkel was a four-year letterman at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1998-2002).

Henkel is the sixth player to sign with Trenton for the 2007-08 season, joining forwards Andrew Leach and Tony Zancanaro and defensemen Matt Cohen, Ryan Gunderson and Stephen Wood.

The Trenton Devils will open the upcoming season against the Reading Royals at Sovereign Bank Arena on Friday, October 19 at 7:30pm. Full and partial season ticket plans for 2007-08 are available by calling (609) 599-9500.
