WEEKLY WRAP-UP: The Cardinals went 2-3 last week, splitting a pair of games with the Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins) before dropping 2 out of 3 to the Williamsport Crosscutters (Pittsburgh Pirates). The Cards and Crosscutters were rained out on both Monday and Tuesday at Williamsport. The Cards are currently 17-18 on the season and in 4th place of the MacNamara Division of the New York-Penn League, 4.5 games behind division leading Brooklyn (New York Mets).

BIRDS WITH BATS: The Cards are batting .247 as a team, tied for 9th in the league. 1B Mike Ferris snapped a 10-game hitting streak on July 23&.During the streak, he batted .350 (14-for-50). OF Sean Dobson hit safely in 6 consecutive games from July 18 to July 24, batting 11-for-25 (.440) with 6 runs scored and 4 stolen bases over the span. OF Steve Sherman has recorded at least one hit in 17 of his last 20 games, going 20-for-73 (.303) with 15 RBI during that time. C Brady Toops snapped an 8-game hitting streak on July 22. He batted .348 (8-for-23) over the span. 2B Chris Patrick picked up 3 hits, including a double, in 4 at-bats on July 22. It was the first time Patrick had recorded a plate appearance since being hit by a pitch on July 11. SS Matt Sheperd has picked up a hit in each of his last 3 games, batting .364 (4-for-11) with a double and 4 runs scored over the span.

CARDINALS HURLERS: The Cards have a 4.30 team ERA, 13th in the league&RHP Miguel Aguero ranks 5th in the league with 41 strikeouts and 42.1 innings pitched. He threw a Cards season-high 8 innings pitched on July 21 when he was a tough 1-0 loser to Jamestown. He allowed the lone run on 5 hits while striking out 8. RHP Chris Della Rocco made his 2nd start of the season on July 22, pitching 6.1 innings while allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. RHP Cory Doyne has not allowed a run in his last 8.1 innings pitched, a streak which spans 7 appearances and dates to July 1. RHP Michael Parisi continued his outstanding pitching, going 7 innings while allowing 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 8 on July 23. Over his last 3 starts, Parisi is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA (20.0 IP, 13 H, 4 ER) and 17 strikeouts. LHP Jackson Paz has not allowed a run in his last 5 innings pitched, and has allowed just 1 run in his appearances this season. RHP Michael Sillman has pitched 7.1 consecutive scoreless innings and has not allowed a run since July 3. In the month of July, RHP Austin Tubb has pitched to a 1.13 ERA (8.0 IP, 1 ER) in 6 appearances. RHP Jeremy Zick has not allowed a run in his last 10.1 innings pitched&In his last 5 outings, he has allowed just 4 hits and struck out 9 in 10 innings pitched&Since July 13, Cards relievers have pitched to a 1.19 ERA (52.2 IP, 7 ER) and have not allowed more than 1 earned run in any of the 12 games in which the bullpen has been used. From July 17 to July 23, the Cards went 6-1 and the pitching staff recorded a 2.14 ERA (63 IP, 15 ER). During that stretch, Cards starters turned in 4 quality starts (at least 6.0 innings pitched, 3 or fewer runs allowed). They have made just 5 in the team's other 28 games this season.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The Cards take today off to take part in the annual New Jersey Cardinals Celebrity Golf Tournament held at Skyview Country Club in Sparta, New Jersey. Proceeds benefit the New Jersey Cardinals Scholarship Fund and the Stand By Me Foundation. The club returns to action on Thursday when they open a 3-game set at Mahoning Valley (Cleveland Indians). They are back in action at Skylands Park on Sunday, August 1, when they take on Staten Island (New York Yankees) in the first game of a 3-game series. Sunday is bat giveaway day sponsored by Newton Memorial Hospital and The New Jersey Herald. In addition, following the game, kids have the opportunity to race around the bases.
