New Jersey blows Out Pioneers 14-0

In a rain-shortened 8-inning affair the New Jersey Jackals moved into a 1st place tie with the Elmira Pioneers with an easy 14-0 decision on a Father's Day Sunday afternoon. Both teams are now 13-10, tied for the top spot in the South Division.

The Jackals scored 6 runs each in the 3rd and 4th innings in putting the game away early. Eric Estes (2-2) surrendered 8 runs, 6 earned in 3.1ip allowing 8 hits and 2 walks. Estes was coming off a complete game 3-hit shutout perofrmance of the Albany last Tuesday but was not nearly as strong this time around.

Elmira was held to 2 hits in their 8 innings. Mike Bertotti (3-1) was strong with 7ip of 1-hit shutout ball with 2 bb's and 5K's.

Travis Bailey's grand slam off rookie Jordan Griswold in the 4th highlighted the Jackals offensive attackand gave NJ an 11-0 advantage.

Chas Terni went 3-for-5 in the contest with a grand slam, a double and a run scored. Dave Callahan was 2-for-3 with 2 walks and 3 runs scored.

New Jersey hit 6 HR's on the 4-game series in winning 3 of 4 games from the Pioneers. They now lead the league with 28 HR's this season.

The 6 runs in an inning and 14 runs in a game are the most allowed by the Pioneers this season.

Elmira finished 3-4 on their 7-game road-trip.

Elmira returns to Dunn Field to open a 7-game homestand. Monday night at 7:05 the Pioneers battle the Allentown Ambassadors in the first of a 4-game series.
