New Hampshire "Defends" and Holds Lead for Win Against Skyhawks

AUGUSTA, N.J. - In front of a sellout crowd Monday night at Skylands Park, Sussex Skyhawks starter Justin Knoff (2-1) struck out ten, but gave up three unearned runs after an error with two outs led to three runs in the fourth to the visiting American Defenders of New Hampshire who won 5-2. New Hampshire added two more runs in the seventh inning with back-to-back hits by Boomer Barry and Angel Molina.

The Skyhawks had few opportunities for runs as they collected only four hits. They were able to scrap together a run in the first when Jorge Moreno scored on a on a base hit from Maikel Jova (2 for 4) and one in the fifth and Ryan Crespi scored on a fielder's choice from Chris Brown. The Skyhawks threatened with two men on in the eighth and one out, but were unable to score.

American Defenders' starter Issac Burkett pitch six strong innings to earn his second win of the season. Edward Ovalle was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's and added his seventh double of the year. Juan Padilla earned his fifth save of season by pitching a scoreless ninth.

The Skyhawks return to action on Wednesday against the American Defenders in Game Two of a three game series. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
