
New England Surge Wins Inaugural Home Game 61â6

Worcester, MA. ...The New England Surge of the Continental Indoor Football League, (CIFL), blew past the NY/NJ Revolutions with a 61-6 win in their inaugural home game Saturday, April 14, 2007. The announced 4,724 fans enjoyed an action packed, high-energy home opener at DCU Center in Worcester, MA. The box office was deluged with fans scrambling to purchase last minute tickets, which delayed the opening ceremonies by thirty minutes. The game commenced with a touching opening ceremony that included Owner & president Roy Lucas, Jr, Mayor Konstantina Lukes, City Manager O'Brien, and Founder & President, Reverend Will Bard of The Dream Center, Worcester, Mass. Mayor Lukes presented a Proclamation declaring 4/14-4/21 as The New England Surge Profession Indoor Football week in Worcester. After the raising of the New England Surge banner by Mayor Lukes, the singing of the National Anthem, and the coin toss by City Manager O'Brien, the excitement began.
Roy Lucas, Jr., relays, "This home opening game surpassed my expectations, which were very high. I want to thank Mayor, Lukes, City Manager O'Brien, Rev. Bard, the entire DCU management and staff, my organization, the players, coaches and cheerleaders...and most of all the fans for making this one of my most memorable events in my life." Lucas continues, "I promised my home town exciting professional football, and that's what we got...thank you everyone."
The Surge's former Algonquin Regional and Bentley College standout Marc Eddy threw to Cy Butler for the first touchdown. A 13-yard interception return by Andre Warren minutes later gave New England, 13-0 lead, with seven minutes left in the first quarter. Eddy then closed out the first quarter with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Cy Butler again to make it 20-0.
Anthony Comer came in as quarterback in the second quarter. The Surge defense held, and linebacker Harold Shaw recorded a sack to push the Revolution back 2 yards. A New York-New Jersey field goal attempt was blocked by Kerry Taylor and picked up by Warren and returned for a 47-yard touchdown to make it 27-0. New England's defense proved powerful again in this quarter. NY/NJ's Hanratty lost a loose ball and was brought down by Surge tackle Eric Boatwright for a safety to make it 29-0. Surge former South High star Bismark Osei returned a kickoff 44 yards to the Revolution 3-yard line and Comer threw to Harold Shaw who made the touchdown on the next play making it 36-0.
Eddy was back as quarterback for the third quarter throwing to Shaw who scored two exciting 1-yard touchdown runs. Eddy threw a targeted pass to Butler running a 45-yard touchdown stretching the Surge lead to 55-0. In the last 8.5 seconds of the game the Revolution finally scored with a 35-yard touchdown pass avoiding the first shutout of the season in the league and giving the Surge their inaugural season win.
The nest game has been rescheduled to Sunday April 22, at 2:00PM to accommodate the AHL Sharks playoff game on Saturday.

Everyone is encouraged to come and watch, get to know and support the New England Surge football players. Interviewing opportunities also available. The roster consists of twenty-five talented and experienced athletes. Regular games consist of twenty-one football players dressing in uniform per game.
