New England Revolution Reveal 2019 Team Awards, Carles Gil as JetBlue Team MVP

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution will recognize the club's 2019 team award winners at the regular season home finale at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 29 against New York City FC. Midfielder Carles Gil has been voted the 2019 JetBlue Revolution Team MVP by fans, and was also selected as the Revolution Players' Player of the Year by his teammates. Andrew Farrell was voted the club's 2019 Defender of the Year by local media, while Scott Caldwell has been honored as the 2019 Revolution Humanitarian of the Year.

Midfielder Carles Gil, acquired in a then-club record transfer for Deportivo de La Coruña in February, has started each of the first 32 league matches in his debut campaign, playing all but eight minutes. The 26-year-old Spaniard has captained the Revolution in 21 straight contests, leading the side to an 8-3-10 record in those games including an 11-game unbeaten run that matched a team record. A leading candidate for the 2019 MLS Newcomer of the Year Award, Gil is only one of three players in MLS with double digits in goals (10) and assists (14), and is only the second player in club history to accomplish the feat. He is second only to Portland's Diego Valeri with 102 chances created, per Opta, and leads all MLS newcomers with his 24 combined goals and assists. Gil's 14 helpers rank fourth most in MLS, and his 12 primary assists are tied for first.

CARLES GIL's 2019 SEASON AT A GLANCE:

- Started all 32 games and captained the side in 21 straight matches to an 8-3-10 record in those contests, including all 11 games of the club-record unbeaten run from May through July.

- The second player in club history and one of only three MLS players with double digits in goals (10) and assists (14), while his 12 primary helpers are tied for the league lead.

- Pacing all MLS newcomers with 24 combined goals and assists, and ranks fourth in MLS with 22 combined goals and primary assists.

- Credited with 104 chances created according to Opta, second most in MLS.

- Leads all MLS players in possessions won in the final third (47), successful passes ending in the final third (693), and ranks second in successful passes in the opposing half (1,098).

Defender Andrew Farrell has been voted the Revolution Defender of the Year for the second straight year by local media. One of Major League Soccer's most reliable and durable players since being selected as the first-overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Farrell has started 27 games this season, second most along the backline. After missing the first four matches with an eye injury, Farrell saw time in his familiar right back role before transitioning to center back, where he has started in each of his last 19 appearances, including all 11 games during the team's record-tying unbeaten run. The 2016 MLS All-Star paces the Revolution in total clearances (120) and headed clearances (54), ranks second in possessions won (170), and owns 31 interceptions. Now in his seventh MLS season, Farrell leads all MLS outfield players in games started (215) and minutes played (19,151) since he entered the league.

ANDREW FARRELL'S 2019 SEASON AT A GLANCE:

- Voted the Revolution Defender of the Year for the second straight year.

- Started 27 games, including a stretch of 19 straight appearances at center back that coincided with the start of the team's 11-game unbeaten streak.

- Ranks second on the team with 170 possessions won, and leads all Revs players in headed clearances (54) and total clearances (120), the latter ranking ninth most in MLS.

- Ranks third on the team with 2,423 minutes played, playing 90 minutes in 26 of his 27 starts.

- Played in all five of the club's clean sheets in 2019.

Midfielder Scott Caldwell, a native of Braintree, Mass. and the club's second Homegrown Player signing, has been named the 2019 Revolution Humanitarian of the Year, as selected by the club's community relations department. In addition to his contributions on the field, the seventh-year Revolution player is consistently one of the club's most generous, dedicated, and passionate ambassadors off the field, committing his time to various club and personal initiatives in the community. In June, Caldwell made history as the first active professional athlete to march in the Boston Pride Parade. He also began hosting Scott's BCH Dream Team, hosting Boston Children's Hospital patients and their families at home matches all throughout the year. Caldwell is also heavily involved with Boston Scores, spearheading financial literacy seminars with Scores students and lending his expertise at countless clinics. For the fifth straight season, he remained closely involved with the Special Olympics Massachusetts Revolution Unified Team, supporting the Unified athletes at clinics and training sessions.

SCOTT CALDWELL'S 2019 HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS AT A GLANCE:

- Became the first active professional athlete to march in the Boston Pride Parade and supported the Boston Strikers through Celebrity Bartending fundraising events.

- Partnered with Boston Children's Hospital to establish "Scott's BCH Dream Team," hosting patients and their families at home games throughout the season.

- A dedicated ambassador to Boston Scores, spearheading financial literacy seminars for Scores students and participating in several clinics.

- Remained closely connected with the Special Olympics Massachusetts Revolution Unified Team for the fifth season.

- Attended countless clinics and visits to local hospital, including Boston Children's Hospital, MassGeneral Hospital for Children, and Hasbro Children's Hospital.
