New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats had fallen behind quickly in each of their last four games, and all of those early deficits proved too large for them to overcome. That dreary pattern appeared again on Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium as visiting Binghamton again jumped out to an early lead, but this time the Rock Cats responded and came away with a 9-3 victory.

The victory snapped the Rock Cats' 8-game losing streak.

New Britain's Trevor May recovered from a wobbly start - Binghamton's Cesar Puello clouted a 2-run home run over the center field fence in the 1st-inning - but the 'Cats promising starter (3-2) settled down and held the visitors scoreless over the next four frames. The B-Mets made May work, however, as he walked five and fanned 6 while throwing just under 100 pitches over 5-full innings of work.

The Rock Cats offense kicked into gear in the 3rd inning when 5 hits off Binghamton starter and loser Jacob deGrom (1-5) produced three runs. The key RBI safeties were delivered by James Beresford, Yosmil Pinto and Danny Ortiz. Pinto's RBI was his 35th of the year, good for 2nd in the Eastern League.

In the 5th-inning, the 'Cats struck again and it all started with a 2-out walk to Deibinson Romero. After a Pinto double and an intentional pass loaded the bases, the slender deGrom walked in two more runs. He was relieved by Greenwich native Shawn Teufel who promptly surrendered a 2-run double to Danny Rohlfing before recording the inning's final out.

In the home half of the 6th, after a Danny Santana bloop single, New Britain's Romero slammed a 2-run HR over the left field fence; it was his third round-tripper of this homestand and put the 'Cats ahead 9-2.

In the meantime, New Britain lefty Blake Martin came out of the bullpen and tossed a scoreless 6TH and 7TH innings.

Bruce Pugh pitched the 8th for New Britain and surrendered 1 run on two hits. He returned in the 9th and shut Binghamton down to secure the victory.
