Akron Racers News Release
AKRON, OH - With just six Racers remaining in Akron's quest to name the 30 players that had the most profound impact on the Racers organization in its 15 Seasons of Play, the 25th player is former designated player/shortstop Nerissa Myers.
"Nerissa is just one of the many gifted hitters to emerge from Coach Michael Lotief's program at Louisiana Lafayette," noted GM Joey Arrietta. "Nerissa not only could hit just about any pitch, she is smart and can run the bases very well."
Myers was traded to Akron in exchange for catcher Kaylyn Castillo after spending her rookie season with the Chicago Bandits in 2013. Myers won the 2013 NPF Offensive Player of the Year award in her first season with the Racers and was named to the All-NPF Team after leading the league with 43 RBI and tying for the league lead in runs scored with 35. She also led Akron with 50 hits and nine home runs in 2014 and finished second on the team with a .365 average. Her 43 RBI, tied her for the fourth best run producing season in the combined history of the WPF-WPSL-NPF, it is the second best season by a Racer, behind fellow IMPACT honoree Crystl Bustos' 57 RBI in 2005.
Last season Myers led the NPF with 31 RBI, while batting .311 on 42 hits, scoring 23 runs and hitting nine home runs. She finished in the top three on the team in each of those categories.
Following the 2015 season, Myers was traded to the expansion Scrap Yard Dawgs in Woodlands, Texas for the 20th selection in the 2016 NPF Draft. Akron used that selection to grab Oregon utility player Geri Ann Glasco. The Racers will also inherit the Dawgs' fifth round selection in 2017.
In just two seasons with the Racers, Myers leaves Akron second in franchise history with a .577 slugging percentage. She's also third all-time with a .338 batting average and a .451 on base percentage. Myers is fifth among all Racers with 74 RBI. Myers appeared in 92 games over her two years with the team, recording 18 home runs, nine doubles, 57 runs and six stolen bases.
The season-long celebration of the Racers 15th Season of Play will reach its apex the weekend of July 15-17 when the Dallas Charge come to Akron. Among other festivities, the IMPACT honorees will all be in town to be recognized in an on-field ceremony which includes the presentation of a special commemorative jersey bearing their name and the number.
