
Negro Leagues tribute, Family Fun Fest on tap for upcoming Beavers homestand

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers begin an eight-game homestand Thursday night by taking on the Iowa Cubs in the first game of a four-game weekend series at PGE Park.
The series with the Cubs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, is highlighted by a Saturday filled with activities and great giveaways.
Prior to the Saturday game, the Beavers are teaming with Principal Financial Group to present "Family Fun Fest," a traveling celebration of baseball and family fun. The free event, which begins at 4 p.m., features more than 20 baseball-themed interactive attractions, including the Microsoft Xbox Home Run Derby Trailer, batting and pitching cages, slides and bungee runs.
Closer to game time, the first 3,000 fans through the gates receive a Beavers T-shirt, courtesy of Carl Buddig.
On the field, the Beavers and Cubs will be honoring the Negro Leagues by donning vintage uniforms and taking part in a number of special activities.
The Beavers round out their homestand with a four-game set against the Omaha Royals, Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas Royals, May 24-27.

Saturday is loaded with activity, including the Principal Financial Group "Family Fun Fest," a traveling celebration of baseball and family fun that features more than 20 baseball-themed interactive attractions, including the Microsoft Xbox Home Run Derby Trailer, batting and pitching cages, slides, bungee runs and free Topps baseball cards for the first 500 fans in attendance ... the Family Fun Fest begins at 4 p.m. at PGE Park and is free of charge ... the first 3,000 fans through the gates (open at 6 p.m.) receive a Beavers T-shirt, courtesy of Carl Buddig ... during the game, both teams will don vintage uniforms as part of the Beavers' Tribute to the Negro Leagues.

OREGONIAN FAMILY SUNDAY - Beavers vs. Iowa - 2:05 p.m.
Take part in another edition of Signature Sundays with four Beavers players signing autographs one hour before first pitch (lasts 20 minutes) ... select kids and parents have the chance to play catch on the field prior to the game ... after the game, kids can run the bases like the pros.
