Edmonton Trappers News Release

Left-hander Michael Tejera (4-0) tossed 7.0 shutout innings as the Albuquerque Isotopes cruised to a 10-4 victory over the Edmonton Trappers Tuesday night at TELUS Field. Tejera was outstanding all night, allowing just four hits and two walks, while fanning two en route to his fourth win of the season. The Trappers struggled the last two night's against the Albuquerque starters, scoring just one run in 15.2 innings against Tejera and right-hander Kevin Olsen. There were four sacrifice flies, four wild pitches, two passed balls and a balk in the game, which became more bizarre as the innings passed. Albuquerque, one of the top power hitting clubs in the PCL, homered in all four games in the series, upping their total for the month of May to 27. Meanwhile the Trappers struggled with the longball, going deep only one time on the homestand. Edmonton has hit just 19 home runs so far this season. The Trappers finished the homestand with a 5-3 record and are currently four games behind the first-place Tacoma Rainiers in the North Division of the PCL. Edmonton begins an eight-game homestand in New Orleans on Thursday night. The club is off on Wednesday.

Albuquerque left two runners stranded in the first inning then opened the scoring in the second frame with a single run off Edmonton starter Christian Parker (1-2). Right fielder Matt Padgett opened the inning with a single to center field and moved to third on a one-out base hit by catcher Matt Treanor. Padgett later scored on a ground out by shortstop Wilson Valdez. Third baseman Jason Wood reached on a fielder's choice in the third inning, moved to second on a wild pitch and later scored on a two-out single by Padgett to make the score 2-0 for Albuquerque. Treanor led off the fourth inning with his second home run of the series, his fifth of the season, to give the Isotopes a three-run advantage. Albuquerque put the game away with a big four-run fifth inning off reliever Mike Johnson. Left fielder Mike Colangelo opened the inning with a triple and scored on a single by Padgett. Center fielder Chris Aguila singled, moving Padgett, who had advanced on a passed ball, to third base. Treanor then doubled, scoring Padgett and advancing Aguila to third. Tejera singled, scoring Aguila to give Albuquerque a six-run lead. Johnson was replaced by Ron Chiavacci, who yielded a sacrifice fly to Valdez that scored Treanor with the Isotopes seventh run.

The Trappers attempted to make things interesting in the eighth inning as the first three runners all reached base against reliever Michael McNutt. Center fielder Brandon Watson reached on an infield single and moved to third on a double by pinch-hitter Jorge Toca. Shortstop Maicer Izturis then singled to right field, scoring Watson. Bryce Florie replaced McNutt and yielded a sacrifice fly to Anthony Medrano that plated Toca with the Trappers second run of the frame. Ron Calloway then grounded into a double play to end the inning. The Isotopes scored three runs off Pat Mahomes in the ninth inning. Aguila scored on a sacrifice fly by Valdez, Treanor scored on a single by Kevin Hooper and Brian Banks capped the inning with a base hit that plated the second baseman with Albuquerque's 10th run. Edmonton rallied for two more runs in the bottom of the ninth off reliever Mike Flannery. Luis Lopez drew a walk to start the frame and moved to second on a single by Julius Matos. A single by Paul Hoover loaded the bases for Watson, who singled into left field, scoring Lopez. Pinch-hitter Scott Hodges scored Matos with a sacrifice fly to make the final 10-4 for the Isotopes.
