NBDL Officials Get The Call

September 26, 2002 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C., September 26, 2002 –A call-up to the National Basketball Association isn't exclusive to National Basketball Development League players, coaches or front office staff any longer. NBDL Executive Director Karl Hicks announced today that game officials Ed Malloy, Tony Brown and Anthony Jordan have been assigned to work NBA games for the 2002-03 season.

Malloy, Brown and Jordan officiated NBDL games during the league's inaugural season. Nine current NBA officials are also slated to work games in the NBDL this season.

"In addition to the players and coaches called up to the NBA this past year, we now have three officials that will make the transition to the next level," Hicks said. "The NBDL is fulfilling its mission of developing talent for all phases of the game of basketball, and we fully expect this trend to continue."

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Mobile Revelers (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), Greenville Groove (S.C.), and Asheville Altitude (N.C..).

The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Ten NBDL players and three coaches have also been called up to the NBA since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 29 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
