NBA Development League To Tip Off First-Ever Green Week March 28

NEW YORK, March 25, 2010 -- The NBA D-League today announced that its inaugural NBA D-League Green Week 2010 will tip off on March 28 and run through April 3. The NBA D-League and its teams and players will host a variety of greening events in a collaborative effort to generate awareness for protecting the environment.

Throughout the week, NBA D-League teams will strive to raise environmental awareness and encourage fans to become more eco-conscious through several hands-on service projects and events, which will include the following:

- The Rio Grande Valley Vipers will be launching G2 (G squared), short for Go Green during their last two home games on April 2 and 3. Students from the University of Texas-Pan American will fulfill their required philanthropy hours during the games by walking the aisles with bags labeled "RECYCLABLE" and "NON-RECYCLABLE," which will educate fans on what is and what is not recyclable. In the Kid's Zone area, kids will receive a worksheet sponsored by McAllen Recycles, with Green Tips and games to educate them about recyclable items.

- The Idaho Stampede is partnering with the local baseball team in Boise to "Go Green" on April 2. The Boise Hawks' team slogan is "Go Green." The Hawks' will be promoting their upcoming season at the Stampede game and they are sponsoring the game for that evening. The Stampede will be giving away recycling bags to the first 100 people in the door. In addition, they are going to "go dark" for the full hour before the game. The team will also have displays in the arena demonstrating how people can utilize their resources better.

- The Springfield Armor will host a "Going Green Knight" at their March 29 where they will distribute information on recycling, hand out seed packets to promote greening the environment, and play educational games.

- The Austin Toros will host their Go Green game on March 31. They are asking fans to bring their plastic grocery bags to the arena along with a list of other recyclable items in exchange for a free ticket. The team will also auction off green balls in a raffle with the proceeds going to local environmental and conservation groups.

- The Erie Bayhawks will partner with Solar Revolution and install rain barrels at a local school that maintains a garden.

- The Reno BigHorns will step up their environmental efforts on March 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. by cleaning up and planting trees and flowers at the Reno Sparks Indian Colony Community Center, which will be held in conjunction with a youth basketball camp.

- The Utah Flash will promote recycling by collecting any recyclable items in-arena and raise awareness through various PA announcements during the week. Any fan that brings five or more recyclable cans will receive a free ticket to the March 27 home game.
