CURRY RETURNS TO IOWA
The Iowa Energy welcomes back guard JamesOn Curry, who spent time with the team last year on assignment from the Chicago Bulls. Curry, a 6-4 guard who averaged 20.8 points in 13 games during his D-League stint last season, played in France earlier in 2008-09 before returning to the United States. He should play a big role as the Energy battle for the Central Division crown. He scored eight points in his season debut on Tuesday night against Sioux Falls.
WIZARDS WELCOME CENTER JESSE SMITH
The NBA Development League Central Division Champion Dakota Wizards announced that they have come to an agreement with the Reno Bighorns. The move brings center Jesse Smith to the Wizards and in return the Wizards have sent forward Rod Benson to Reno. Smith, a 6'11, 260lb center from Idaho State is averaging 9.6 points per game along with 6.8 rebounds per game for Reno so far this season. During the 07-08 season he was with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and averaged nine points and seven boards in 50 games, 39 of those games he was a starter.
VIPERS TRADE FOR THREE-POINT THREAT
The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that they acquired Jeff Trepagnier from the Bakersfield Jam for Alpha Bangura, who was activated today following the waiving of Maurice Carter. In 36 games with the Jam, Trepagnier was averaging 10.9 points and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 35.3% from behind the arc and 84.8% from the free throw line. The 29-year old 6'4 shooting guard out of the University of Southern California was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the seventh pick of the second round (35th overall) in the 2001 NBA Draft. After playing in 12 games with the Cavaliers during the 2001-02 season, Trepagnier moved onto the Denver Nuggets for 19 games during the 02-03 and 03-04 seasons. He has a .462-career three-point shooting percentage (6-13) in the NBA while averaging 2.8 points per game, including a career-high 5.6 points in eight games during the 02-03 season. Trepagnier has D-League experience, playing for the Asheville Altitude during the 02-03 season.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT HIGHLIGHTS...top performers from Wednesday's games
The 14ers were led by Josh Davis' 29 point effort. John Lucas added 20 with nine assists, and Dominique Coleman posted 17 points, seven rebounds, and 10 assists in the win.
Current D-League Performer of the Week Marcus Williams led the way for Austin with a game-high 31 points to go along with 11 rebounds and seven assists. Ezra Williams added 23 points and 11 boards for the Toros in the loss.
Anaheim's Cedric Bozeman finished with 22 points, 16 rebounds, and 8 assists which gave him his sixth double-double on the season. Kedrick Brown ended the night leading the Arsenal with 25 points and added 9 rebounds and 6 assists. All five Arsenal starters scored in double digits and had at least 9 rebounds as Anaheim out rebounded Fort Wayne 57-35, the most rebounds for the Arsenal this season.
Leading the Mad Ants, Chris Hunter scoring 32 points. Taj McCullough scored 22, Ron Howard added 20 and Walker Russell Jr. rounded out the Mad Ants double digit scoring with 18.
ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENTS: A look at D-League Alumni in last night's NBA games:
22 players with D-League experience competed in eight NBA games last night, six as starters.
Miami's Daequan Cook erupted for 27 points off the bench and added five rebounds. Starter Jamario Moon also grabbed five rebounds to go with 15 points.
Starting for Phoenix, Matt Barnes notched 19 points. Louis Amundson added seven.
As a starter for the Washington Wizards, forward Andray Blatche scored 14 points and grabbed five boards.
Mike Taylor scored 15 points off the bench for the Clippers. Steve Novak followed with 10.
