Connecticut Defenders News Release
(Norwich, Conn.) -- The Norwich Navigators pounded out 13 runs on 18 hits, and Pat Misch combined with Scott Chiasson on the second shutout in as many days, as the Norwich Navigators swept the three-game series by pummeling the Trenton Thunder, 13-0, at Dodd Stadium tonight.
The Navigators had at least one hit in every single inning in the game, and they scored at least one run in six of the eight innings. Every Norwich hitter in the starting lineup had at least one hit and six of the nine starters had multi-hit games. Chris Curry led the offensive charge by going 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Carlos Valderrama homered and doubled, Fred Lewis drove in three runs, and A.J. LaBarbera, Randy Walter, Brad Vericker and Tim Hutting all had at least two hits each. Pat Misch (4-2) was terrific, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six. Scott Chiasson pitched two perfect innings to finish up the game, striking out three. Trenton starter Calvin Maduro (3-2) was shelled for five runs in 3.1 innings, and took the loss.
The Navigators set season highs for biggest shutout win (13-0) and largest margin of victory (13). With the back-to-back shutouts of Trenton, Norwich pitching held the Thunder scoreless for the final 19 innings of the three-game series. Norwich is now two games behind Trenton for the final playoff spot with four games to go. The Navigators will now welcome the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to town for the first of a four game series starting tomorrow night. Righty Anthony Moreno will take the ball for Norwich and he will be opposed by New Hampshire righty Cam Reimers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
