Erie SeaWolves News Release

(Erie, PA) The substantial damage due to Hurricane Katrina has created one of the worst disaster areas this country has ever known. Along with the American Red Cross, the Erie SeaWolves and the Eastern League are stepping up to the plate to aid in this unbelievable situation during the final homestand of the 2005 season that starts Friday, September 2nd and ends on Monday, September 5th.

The SeaWolves will set up small banks around Jerry Uht Park for small donations. The Erie SeaWolves will also give a free SeaWolves cap for each donation of $5 or more to the Red Cross. In addition, the Erie SeaWolves Booster Club has agreed to generously donate their revenue from 50/50 drawings throughout the weekend. Lastly, as a part of the annual Fan Appreciation Day, on Sunday, September 4 the SeaWolves will be holding a silent raffle for more than 350 prizes where each fan will be given 3 free raffle tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 with all earnings being donated to the Red Cross. A $5 donation will result in a free hat plus 5 the additional raffle tickets.

Several other Eastern League teams have joined in the relief effort as well. In addition to the SeaWolves relief efforts, the Eastern League will match each team s donation up to $100.

John Frey, General Manager with the Erie SeaWolves said, While we may feel far removed from distant cities and distant places, an event such as this shows just how close we truly stand. Many of us have friends or family in the region and this is just one small way to assist during such a difficult time .

The Erie SeaWolves are providing a wonderful opportunity to the Erie community further solidifying their status as a community partner, especially in this time of need added Tim Bodamer, Communications Director for the Erie Chapter of the American Red Cross. More than 850 chapters of the Red Cross will be participating across the country. The Red Cross is expecting 1,900 volunteers to help staff 200 shelters in disaster relief operations while others will look to raise at least $130 million in aid.
