Naturals Announce 2009 Spring Training Slate

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, have announced the team's 2009 Spring Training Schedule, a 14-game slate that begins on March 19th.

Kansas City Royals' minor leaguers reporting for early work will hold their first workout on March 2nd. Minor league players reporting early include some pitchers and catchers as well as players who are members of their respective countries' World Baseball Classic roster. The first full-squad minor league workout will occur on March 9th, and the Naturals will then continue their workouts at the Royals' Surprise facilities and play their first spring game on Thursday, March 19th in Peoria against the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, the Seattle Mariners' Double-A club.

Pitchers and catchers who are members of the Royals' 40-man roster will report to Major League camp on February 13th, while position players and the 23 non-roster invitees to Major League camp will arrive on February 17th before the first full-squad workout on February 18th. The Royals face the Texas Rangers for their first Spring Training contest on February 25th.

In all, the Royals will play 20 games at Surprise Stadium, the team's Spring Training facility in Surprise, AZ, 35 Cactus League contests overall, and two other April exhibition games on its 2009 Spring Training schedule before opening the regular season on April 6th. The Naturals' begin their 2009 regular season slate on April 9th at San Antonio, and will begin their home schedule at Arvest Ballpark on Thursday, April 16th against the San Antonio Missions.
