June 24, 2013 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Hamilton Nationals News Release

Hamilton Nationals defenseman Tucker Durkin was named the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week for week 8 of the 2013 season. Charlotte's Matt Danowski scored his way to Warrior Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Boston's Will Manny took home Cascade Rookie of the Week accolades.

Durkin helped anchor the Nationals' defense in a 17-11 convincing win over the Rochester Rattlers in Boca Raton, Fla. The rookie and 2013 Tewaaraton Award nominee dominated the crease, keeping opponents far away from Hamilton's goalie Brett Queener. Durkin and the rest of the defense limited the Rattlers to only six goals throughout the first three quarters. He also limited Rattlers' leading scorer Ned Crotty to just one goal.

Durkin has scooped up nine ground balls this season, and will look to continue his play against offensive savvy Chesapeake on Saturday, June 29th. The game will be broadcast live on YouTube at 7:00 p.m.

The Johns Hopkins product was acquired through a trade with Charlotte Hounds in 2013. He was the third overall pick by Charlotte in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft. This past season, he earned his third straight All-American honor, receiving Second Team honors as a sophomore and First Team honors last season. He became just the fourth player in Johns Hopkins history, and the eighth player in college lacrosse history, to twice win the William C. Schmeisser Award as the nation's top defensive player.
