Ohio Machine News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today Ohio Machine (Machine) players Kyle Hartzell and Steele Stanwick have been named as MLL All-Stars and will play in the 2013 MLL All-Star Game presented by Moe's Southwest Grill in Charlotte, NC, on July 13, 2013. Players were selected through balloting process by MLL coaches and general managers.
Second-year Machine attackman Steele Stanwick has been named as an MLL All-Star for the first time. Stanwick, who is tied for third in MLL for assists with 11, currently leads the Machine in assists and is tied for first in points with 17. Stanwick finished his 2012 season leading all MLL rookies in assists with 17, as well as ranked first on the Machine for assists (17) and fourth for points (28) and goals (11).
"I am truly honored to be selected to play in the All-Star Game," said Stanwick. "To even be mentioned in the same sentence as the other All-Star players is very humbling and I'm looking forward to taking the field with them."
Co-captain and defenseman Kyle Hartzell enters into his third consecutive All-Star Game and second representing the Machine. At this year's All-Star Game, Hartzell will be defending his back-to-back 2011 and 2012 Fastest Shot titles, which he won last year by tying Paul Rabil's world record for fastest shot at 111 mph. Hartzell is currently tied for second in goals (3) and is third in groundballs (32) for MLL defensemen in the 2013 season. Last season, Hartzell set the MLL record for most points by a defenseman with 21 in a season and he ended the 2012 season first in the league for points and two-point goals with nine by a defenseman.
The 38 MLL All-Star players will be divided into two teams as selected by the winners of the MLL Ultimate Fan Fantasy contest. The All-Stars will be wearing specially designed jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game to benefit JDRF, the 2013 All-Star Game's charity. The MLL All-Star Game presented by Moe's Southwest Grill takes place on Saturday, July 13, at 7:00 pm in Charlotte, N.C., at American Legion Memorial Stadium, and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
