Nashville SC to Wrap up Preseason against Indy Eleven in Evansville
January 23, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - Nashville Soccer Club will take a nemesis from the 2018 USL Championship season to wrap up its preseason. Nashville will play a neutral site game against Indy Eleven in Evansville, Ind. on March 2 at 2 p.m. Of the other 15 USL Eastern Conference teams, Indy was one to two teams to beat Nashville twice last season.
"Indy showed their credentials as USL Championship contenders last season and have strengthened dramatically in the off season," said Nashville SC head coach Gary Smith. "Quality additions from the Cincinnati roster along with added firepower in [Dane] Kelly & [Ilja] Ilic, make Indy the strongest contenders to topple Louisville. The game will be a great test for us just a week away from the opening whistle."
Both forwards, Kelly is the USL Championship's all-time leading goal scorer while Ilic was a key piece to Louisville City's run to back-to-back USL Cup titles. Indy has also acquired four players who won the USL Championship regular season title with FC Cincinnati last year. Keeper Evan Newton, defender Paddy Barrett and midfielders Kenney Walker and Tyler Gibson will all join Indy Eleven for the 2019 season.
"Indy Eleven was one of the top teams in the USL Eastern Conference a season ago, and the reinforcements to their roster figure to make them an even more legitimate title contender this season," said Nashville SC VP of soccer operations and technical director Mike Jacobs. "We have a lot of respect for Martin Rennie and their organization, and know that they will provide a great test for us to prepare for the regular season."
Indy Eleven will be the sixth and final opponent for Nashville SC in the 2019 preseason. Nashville will open its preseason at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. against the Montreal Impact of MLS on February 6 and defending USL Cup champions Louisville City FC on Feb. 9, before traveling to Birmingham for a tilt against USL Championship newcomer Birmingham Legion FC on Feb. 16. Nashville will then return to the Music City for a home game at First Tennessee Park against MLS opponent New York City FC on Feb. 22 before heading down the road for a midweek friendly against Lipscomb University on Feb. 27. The USL Championship regular season will begin March 9.
Fans wanting to make the trip to Evansville will be able to purchase tickets at the gate in advance of the game. Streaming of the game is still TBD.
Tickets to Nashville's home game against NYCFC are now on sale at NashvilleSC.com/tickets. That game is also included in NSC's Season Ticket Membership package that starts at just $10 a game.
