Real Monarchs News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC welcomes FW Douglas MartÃnez to the club ahead of the 2019 USL Championship season, General Manager Dan Egner announced today. MartÃnez's signing is pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC), league and federation approval.
"Douglas comes to the club with quite a bit of experience, both at the club level and the international level," Egner said. "He has shown quite well during his time with the Honduran youth national teams and is no stranger to the USL. We think Douglas is one of the most prolific forwards in CONCACAF for his age group and we look forward to watching him develop and mature as a player with the Monarchs."
Martinez, 21, spent the 2017-18 season with C.D.S. Vida in his second stint with the club, having featured for the Honduran side in four seasons prior to 2018 beginning in 2013 when he made his professional debut at 16-years-old. Martinez carries with him United Soccer League experience having featured for New York Red Bulls II in 2017 while on loan where he logged 485 minutes scoring one goal. Martinez totaled 1,230 minutes and three goals in his time in the Honduran top flight.
"I'm very excited to join such a great team and organization like the Monarchs," MartÃnez said. "I'm eager to start working with the team that is always competing for the title at the USL level and producing great players for the first team and Europe."
