Nashville SC Launching Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative on and off the Field
September 26, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - October is breast cancer awareness month and Nashville SC will be doing its part to raise awareness both on and off the field. Two of SC's players, defender Bradley Bourgeois and forward Tucker Hume, have both been directly impacted by breast cancer and will be spearheading Nashville SC's fundraising campaign.
Fans looking for some new gear will be able to preorder a "Real Fans Wear Pink" shirt, a twist on the American Cancer Society's (ACS) "Real Men Wear Pink" initiative. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each "Real Fans Wear Pink" shirt will be donated to the ACS. Any preordered shirts will be shipped the first week of October. They will also be available for sale at each of Nashville SC's home games in October, on the 9th and the 13th and at the Nashville SC team store throughout October.
"My mother has had breast cancer twice," said Bourgeois. "The first time was when I was a sophomore in college. She never missed one of my soccer games in college even when going through treatment. She stayed strong both times and went into remission which has been a huge blessing. Please join me the whole month of October to raise money for breast cancer awareness."
Standalone donations can also be made directly to Nashville Soccer Club's page on the ACS website by following this link.
"It's important to spread awareness for breast cancer because it affects so many families and lives," said Hume. "My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last year when I was a rookie up in Canada. It shook me up. I wanted to come home and do anything I could do to help her. My mom stayed strong through the whole thing and got the necessary treatments. We are so thankful that everything got sorted out."
Nashville SC players will be getting in on the action as well as they will wear pink accessories pregame in Nashville's home games this Saturday against New York Red Bulls II and October 9 against Toronto FC II. In each of the two games, the team will wear pink socks as a part of its game uniform.
There are still limited tickets available for Saturday's game against Red Bulls II which can be purchased at NashvilleSC.com/tickets.
