Can-Am Canadian American League

Nandin, Albers Can-Am Players of the Week

August 3, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

DURHAM, NC - The Can-Am League announced today that Pittsfield INF Matt Nandin and Quebec City LHP Andrew Albers (pictured) have been named the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the Can-Am League.

Nandin, Pittsifeld's starting shortstop, recorded 12 hits in 30 at-bats for a .400 batting average during the week. The two-hole hitter set the table admirably for the Colonials, scoring seven runs in seven games, reaching base safely in each contest, and adding three stolen bases. He also contributed two doubles, two home runs, and 9 RBI to Pittsfield's current five-game winning streak. The 22-year-old Syracuse, NY resident is batting .321 (6th in the league) with 78 hits (T-2nd), 44 runs scored, 20 extra-base hits, and 31 RBI.

Albers pitched in three games for the Capitales, earning saves in each contest. The lefty closer threw four innings over his appearances, allowing just three hits and striking out five. Most recently, on zero days of rest, Albers threw two perfect frames to close out Sunday's game against Worcester. In all this season, the 24-year-old is 2-0 with a microscopic 0.86 ERA. His nine saves (3rd in the league) and 28 games pitched (T-2nd) reflect his importance to Quebec's bullpen, and his 41 strikeouts in 42 innings of work, with just nine walks and 26 hits allowed demonstrate his late-inning dominance.
