Worcester 11, Pittsfield 2
Worcester 3B Mark Minicozzi blasted a three-run homer in the first and LF Ryan Crespi added a two-run shot in the second to lead the Tornadoes to an 11-2 win over Pittsfield. The early offense put the Tornadoes in control of the game early, and the offense continued to add on by scoring single tallies in each of the final six innings. Six Worcester hitters, including each of the top five hitters in the lineup, smashed at least two hits in the game. On the mound, starter Chris Farley earned the win by allowing just one run in five innings, and reliever Matt Giusti surrendered just one more run over the final three innings.
Sussex 6, New Jersey 5 (Game 1 - 7 innings)
Sussex came back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to beat New Jersey 6-5 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Seven Skyhawk hitters registered hits, and the team totaled 10 base knocks. Starter Mike Vicaro earned the win by lasting six innings despite allowing four earned runs. Closer Duaner Sanchez earned his 14th save by pitching a perfect seventh.
Sussex 7, New Jersey 4 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
A first inning two-run single by 3B Nick Giarraputo and a second inning three-run homer by DH Caleb Stewart powered Sussex to a 7-4 victory against the Jackals to secure a doubleheader sweep. The early offense, which was capped by a solo homer by Giarraputo in the third, staked Sussex to a 7-2 lead. Starter Kevin Gunter left with the lead after the third, but Donald Jordat picked up the win by tossing the next three frames. Jared Locke earned his second save by working a scoreless seventh.
Brockton at Quebec (Postponed - Rain)
This game was postponed due to rain. The game will be played as part of a doubleheader beginning at 5:05 pm on Wednesday, August 4. Both games will be seven innings.
