Washington Mystics News Release

Training Camp Recap:

Mystics training camp opened on Sunday with 13 players taking the court for the first time together. "I felt it was good start. We had a lot of energy," said general manager/head coach Trudi Lacey. "Everyone is working hard trying to understand our concepts. I felt good about it. We put in a few things and we just have to continue to build on it." A year after her surgery and sitting out during the 2010 season, guard Alana Beard was back in action. Assistant coach Marianne Stanley was pleased with Beard's ability to get back into the flow of things in her first practice back. The Mystics worked on the basics and ran plays to get the players used to communicating, working together, and getting to know Lacey's different philosophies as a head coach.

Note: Duke teammates Jasmine Thomas and Karima Christmas as well as Xavier's Ta'Shia Phillips were not in attendance on Day 1 of training camp due to their respective college graduations.

"I was really pleased today with our energy and our enthusiasm. We had a great group that was really energetic; worked extremely hard and were very attentive and trying to do what we are asking them to do. It allowed us as coaches to get through things very quickly. So for day one, the first time this group has ever worked together, I was really pleased with how practice flowed, what we were able to get done, and the fact that everyone brought tremendous energy."
