WASHINGTON, D.C. -The Washington Mystics and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) announced the return of CareFirst as the sponsor of the "Community 3's" initiative for a third consecutive season. For every three-pointer made by a Mystics player this season, CareFirst will donate $100 to the March of Dimes. In addition, the Mystics and CareFirst will partner for a diaper drive for the March of Dimes' Mama and Baby Bus on Saturday, August 20 when the Mystics host the Chicago Sky at 7:00 p.m. The Mama and Baby Bus is the first and only prenatal/dental mobile unit in the city, providing free prenatal and dental care to pregnant women in wards 1, 2, 4 and 5 in Washington, D.C. The mobile unit parks at six different locations every week.
"We are pleased to once again present this outstanding program in conjunction with our partner, CareFirst," Mystics Chief Operating Officer Greg Bibb stated. "The Community 3's initiative is a win for the Mystics and our fans, a win for CareFirst and most importantly a win for the deserving organizations that benefit from the funds raised through the performance of our team. We are honored to participate with CareFirst as we strive to improve the community in which we work, live and play."
During the 2010 season, the Mystics connected on 160 three-pointers and CareFirst donated $16,000 to the Mama and Baby Bus as a part of the Community 3's initiative. This season, the Mystics have made 11 three-points field goals through their first six games.
"This is a partnership that supports a critical need in the community," said CareFirst Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Community Affairs Maria Harris Tildon. "We are proud to sponsor the Mystics players during their 2011 season and the March of Dimes Mama and Baby Bus, which delivers free prenatal and dental care to women who are pregnant, in Wards 1, 2, 4 and 5."
Season and group tickets for the 2011 season are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Mystics Sales Office at 1-877-DC-HOOP1 or by visiting the Mystics web site at www.washingtonmystics.com. Individual game tickets are also currently on sale.
