Washington Mystics News Release

Washington, D.C. - The Washington Mystics have acquired six-time WNBA All-Star Taj McWilliams-Franklin and a first round pick in the 2009 WNBA draft from the Los Angeles Sparks in exchange for Forward DeLisha Milton-Jones, Mystics general manager Linda Hargrove announced today. Per company policy, terms of the contract will not be released.

"Taj brings incredible experience, professionalism and a great work ethic to our team," said Hargrove. "Her versatility on the offensive end was something we were looking for and obtaining a first round pick in the 2009 draft will allow us to ensure that another talented player is on our roster."

A 6-2 Forward/Center, McWilliams-Franklin spent four seasons with the Connecticut Sun and helped lead the team to the 2004 and 2005 Eastern Conference Championships. She has started 269 of the 272 games played throughout her nine-year WNBA career. Her career averages are as follow: 12.3 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game and 1.4 steals per game. She is the all time rebounding leader in Connecticut Sun history. In 2007, McWilliams-Franklin recorded 11.1 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game with the Sparks. From 2005-2007, McWilliams-Franklin was named to consecutive All-Star teams. She has been named to the 2005 and 2006 ALL-WNBA teams.

A graduate of St. Edwards, McWilliams-Franklin was drafted in the third round (32nd overall) of the 1999 WNBA draft by the Orlando Miracles. She was named to three consecutive All-Star teams (1999-2001). She also played three seasons in the American Basketball League (ABL).

Milton-Jones spent three seasons with the Mystics. Over her career, she has averaged 11.8 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game and 0.8 blocks per game.

"DeLisha has been a vital part of the Mystics organization for the last three seasons and we wish her the best," stated Hargrove

Washington will host the club's home opener on Sunday, May 25th, against the four-time WNBA Champion Houston Comets at 4:00 p.m. Individual tickets are currently on sale on www.ticketmaster.com.
