MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans fell in the middle game of a three-game series 8-3 on Wednesday night to the Down East Wood Ducks from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
The Wood Ducks (47-63, 12-28) used the long ball in the top of the second to get to Pelicans (50-59, 16-23) starter Tyson Miller (8-7). After Charles Leblanc was hit by a pitch with two outs, Andretty Cordero bashed a two-run homer and Ricky Valencia followed with a blast of his own to make it 3-0.
Myrtle Beach answered in the bottom of the fifth with two runs. Wladimir Galindo led off the inning with a walk and Jose Gutierrez singled for D.J. Wilson, who doubled home Galindo and finished his night 2-for-4. Aramis Ademan plated Gutierrez with a ground out to make it 3-2.
Down East answered right back in the top of the sixth inning with back-to-back triples to start the inning from LeDarious Clark and Anderson Tejeda. Two batters later, Josh Altmann ripped an RBI double and Cordero added an RBI single to give the Woodies a 6-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Galindo worked a bases-loaded walk to pull the Birds within three, but Down East pulled away again with a sacrifice fly from Clark in the seventh and a Leblanc RBI double in the eight, making it 8-3.
Walker Weickel (2-8) earned the win, tossing five innings while allowing three runs.
