Milwaukee Mustangs News Release
MILWAUKEE (May 9, 2012) - Milwaukee Mustangs defensive back Kelvin Rodgers has been named the AFL's JLS Ironman of the Week after a 64-63 victory over the Philadelphia Soul in Week 9 of the Arena Football League season.
If there was any question whether or not Rodgers would show glimpses of his 2011 Mustangs self after being traded back to Milwaukee, the doubt has been put to rest. Rodgers (6-1, 180, Minnesota State-Mankato) returned a kickoff for a touchdown for the second straight week.
"I want to give thanks to God for putting me in this position to receive this honor and my mom for keeping my head on right and pushing me in a positive direction. She has been there for every step of my journey," said Rodgers. "Hard work pays off in the end, and I am grateful for my teammates and coaches for putting me in a great position to do the things I accomplish on the field. I am very pleased with this honor, but it's just a taste for what's in store for Mustangs football."
Rodgers led the Mustangs' defense and special teamsin Week 9. He had 10.5 tackles, 170 kick return yards and a deflected pass. He also returned a kick 56 yards for a touchdown in Milwaukee's victory over the Soul. Rodgers has accumulated at least 100 all-purpose yards in all three games with the Mustangs this season.
