Hoffman Estates, IL -The Chicago Mustangs of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) are proud to announce they have won the bid to host the Ron Newman Cup Championship Weekend for the 2013-14 season. The event, which will take place on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16, 2014, is the national championship held yearly to crown the best arena soccer team in the PASL.
This years schedule is set to have fans moving between two venues, both located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Grand Sports Arena, the current home of the Chicago Mustangs, will host the preliminary games for the PASL's developmental division (known as the Premier Arena Soccer League or PASL-Premier) on Saturday, March 15 in the morning and early afternoon. The day will then continue later in the afternoon as the last round of preliminary PASL-Premier matchups, and then the two semi final matches for the professional division will take place at the Sears Centre Arena. The weekend will conclude on Sunday with the semi finals and finals of the PASL-Premier, and final game for the PASL being held on Sunday, again at the Sears Centre Arena. Also, the Mustangs will engage the local soccer community by hosting several youth tournaments, camps and skills clinics throughout the weekend at both locations, as well as hosting media events and special events at several of the surrounding businesses. Mustangs' Team President Armando Gamboa said "Utilizing both Grand Sports Arena and the Sears Centre Arena during this Ron Newman Cup Finals weekend will turn Hoffman Estates into an Arena Soccer mecca. This is going to be tremendous for the local economy, and we are excited that we get to be at the center of it all."
The weekend of events is projected to inject nearly a half million dollars into the local economy. The team's General Manager, Nasser Rafidia, talked briefly about the magnitude of the weekend and its related events, "With over seven hundred (700) hotel room nights expected, and fans from all over the [United] States and Mexico converging on the area, our number one goal is to develop as much opportunity for local business as possible."
The Mustangs beat out three other potential host team sites, Dallas, TX (Dallas Sidekicks), San Diego, CA (San Diego Sockers) and Ontario, CA (Ontario Fury). PASL League Commissioner Kevin Milliken stated that it came down to the extra work that the Mustang's front office staff put in, and their focus on the details of hosting the league's annual marque weekend. Milliken continued by saying, "The finals tournament is more than just the games to determine the best in our sport, but more a showcase of where the sport itself is headed."
With the weekend just over seven weeks out, tickets will go fast when they hit public sale this Friday, January 24, 2014. Ticket prices will start as low as $9.00 for single day tickets and $15.00 for weekend passes.
