Indiana Ice News Release

WEEKEND ROUND-UP: Indiana split a pair of games against the defending Clark Cup Champion Des Moines Buccaneers last weekend as they defeated the "Bucs" 3-2 in a shootout on Friday before falling 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. Friday: Indiana battled back twice from deficits to eventually force a shootout with the "Bucs" as Gregory Squires and Eric Kattelus both tickled the twine in regulation. After a scoreless overtime session, John Kemp and Eric Miller tallied shootout goals while Cody Reichard stopped all four Buccaneer attempts to earn his fourth win of the season. Saturday: Indiana jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but could not sustain a lead as Des Moines came back for a 4-3 overtime win. Eric Miller and Brett Peterson both scored within the first minute of play but couldn't keep the momentum moving as Des Moines struck back to tie the affair. Jake Skjodt also scored for the Ice while goaltender Alex Kangas made 19 saves in defeat.

NATURAL BORN PENALTY KILLERS: Despite being the league's most penalized team and spending the most time shorthanded (29.8 minutes/game), Indiana has defended the power play well this season as they have successfully killed off 85.47% of their opponents' man-advantage's and tallied seven shorthanded goals. Forwards Gregory Squires, Brett Peterson, and Brian Arrigoni have all scored two shorthanded goals for Indiana.

HIGH LIFE: Indiana's recent acquisition of ex-Seguin Bruin Eric Miller paid immediate dividends this weekend as the gritty forward made an immediate impact on the offensive end as he scored during a shootout on Friday night to propel Indiana to a 4-3 win over Des Moines. Miller came out even stronger on Saturday night as he tallied his first career USHL goal just 15 seconds into the game as the Ice fell 4-3 in overtime to the "Bucs". His goal was an all-time Ice USHL for fastest goal from the start of a game.

HOMELAND SECURITY: Indiana has taken full advantage of home ice this season as they have earned 26 of 32 possible points with a 12-2-2 record in the "Circle City". The Ice has turned the defense up a notch when defending their home turf as they have allowed 2.94 goals per game. Their 12 victories at home ties Sioux City for most home wins among USHL teams this season.

BEST OF THE WEST: After splitting a pair of contests with the defending Clark Cup Champion Des Moines Buccaneers last weekend, Indiana hosts the West Division leader Sioux City Musketeers for a two-game series this weekend at Pepsi Coliseum. Sioux City defeated the Ice twice earlier this season with a pair of 3-2 decisions at the Tyson's Event Center in Sioux City, IA. The Musketeers boast the highest scoring line in the USHL as forwards Max Pacioretty, Phil DeSimone, and Blake Martin have combined for 110 points (43G, 67A), while goaltender Jerry Kuhn's .933 save percentage leads all USHL netminders.
