Sioux City Musketeers News Release

The Musketeers hit home ice again this Friday night against the Green Bay Gamblers for their third home game in a row before heading up I-29 to Sioux Falls on Saturday night to take on the Stampede.

Sioux City, currently 3-4 on the season, is relying on solid goaltending while the young squad gets their feet under them. The team went 1-1 in action last weekend, defeating the USA Select U-17 squad 4-3 in a dramatic overtime game on Friday night, and losing 4-1 Saturday night to Western Division leader Omaha. Willie Yanakeff is 6th in the USHL with a .911 save percentage and 12th in goals against average at 2.82. Matt Skoff is ranked 8th in save percentage with a .907 and 6th with a 2.10 goals against average. Offensively, Matt Paape is at the top of the scoring chart with 3 goals and 2 assists, good for 5 points.

FRIDAY NIGHT - OCTOBER 30TH

The Gamblers come to town with a 4-2-2 record, good for 3rd place in the USHL's Eastern Division, after a split at home last weekend with Indiana, losing 4-3 in Overtime on Friday night and winning 3-0 on Saturday night. Leading the scoring charge for Head Coach and General Manager Jon Coopers squad is Edina, Minnesota native Anders Lee. The 6'2", 216 pound first year forward has three goals in his last five games. Reed Seckel and David Makowski each have 7 points for the Gamblers. Seckel has two goals in his last five games. Second year goaltender Steve Summerhays (2.33 GAA, .905 SV%) has been splitting time between the pipes with Ryan McKay (2.56 GAA, .900 SV%), the pair are ranked 7th and 10th, respectively, among league leaders in the Goals Against Category. They're also 10th and 11th, respectively, in Save Percentage in league standings.

CANDY DASH! After the Friday night game, we invite our younger fans to stick around for our annual Post Game Halloween Candy Dash. All kids ages 14 and under who are dressed in Halloween costume will be allowed onto the ice after the game so that they can "dash for candy". Our promotions staff will spread candy out all over the ice for kids to dash around and pick up.

SATURDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 31ST

Saturday night, Coach Strand's squad heads north for the team's first visit to Sioux Falls Arena this season, and their second match-up with the Stampede this month. The Musketeers fell to the Stampede back on October 10th, by a score of 3-1. Sioux Falls, currently in 3rd place in the Western Division with a 4-1-2 record, is lead offensively by Michael Voran (2g-8a-10pts), however, there is no lack of goal scoring in the Stampede lineup early on this season. Eight of their forwards have 2 or more goals already on the season, and of those multi-goal scorers, none of them have less than 2 assists. The Musketeer Booster Club will be selling tickets to this road game for $5 each at the Tyson Events Center during this Friday night's home game. They will also be hosting a tailgate party in the Sioux Falls Arena parking lot from 4:30 until the doors open for Saturday night's game. Burgers and hot dogs will be served. Cost per person for the tailgate is just $2 each.
